The era of "Digi People".

My journalism degree had taught me that “NEWS” is something which is “New” for the target people. And that it should not dare to cross the sacred boundaries of 5W's (Who, where, when, what and why) and 1H (How). Now, when I’m little bit wiser than my university days, I refuse to accept this definition. Popular media like print and television is madly following  the “Breaking News” trend. The words “Journalistic ethics” only remain confined in the classrooms of colleges or universities. Students never ever get chance to apply them when they start working with the media giants.

To survive in this trend of breaking news, they say and show only same things 1000 times. And, not even in 1000 ways to their viewers. I wonder whom they are trying to fool and for how long? Do they really think that their viewers or readers are stupid? Every media organization is involved either with a particular political party or a business tycoon. They manipulate the news for their own benefits and this makes them throw away real journalism from window and sensitize or politicize even the crimes like murder and rape.

Now is the era of Digi People. Mostly today's youngster comes under this Digi people group. Digi people are using digital media as a platform to make social reforms. they try to bring people of enemy countries together. Digital media is working to bring change in the mindset of the people. Their work to bring gender neutrality and equality in the society is really commendable.

Recently, the definition of news has changed in this digital era. This “#” has transferred power into the hands of common men. And in most of the cases, it doesn’t involve any big names. Digi people decide from which angle they want to see any news. No more they are ready to accept to take whatever is presented to them by the electronic or print media. People do their own research work in digital media to check the credibility of the news and to know more and various angles of the news.

Online sites like BuzzFeed, ScoopWhoop, StoryPick, The Logical Indian etc have brought welcome change from the stereotypes definition of news. I wouldn’t be wrong if I say, for youngsters what is trending in digital media has become “breaking news” for them. The trend, “Digital News Media” sporting is quite different from the age old traditional styles and formulas. Rapes and murders rarely find any position in their digital space. If not there is any positive human side behind it.

These Digital News Media are doing awesome work of spreading positivity in the whole world. Every day I come across at least 2 or 3 positive stories which will also inspire people to be good and helpful. Story like “People Being Awesome” is not news for any popular media. Digital News Media give us love, hope and courage. They are restoring faith in humanity by showing people that rapist and murderers is not the only people living in our society. But there are many kind people all over the world who help people silently and selflessly.

For me news is not about famous celebrities or politician or criminals. I find news in "Humans of New York". For me these unknown strangers are newsmakers. Because they are humans like me. I can relate with their struggles, success, ambitions, failures and happiness. And, I know they are showing their real self to the world. They give us inspiration to go on and a realistic advice that everyone is struggling with their own demons. You’re not alone!

I had boycott television long back and now newspaper is also becoming mere papers to through away garbage every morning. Popular media is morally dead. Whereas, digital media is our hope for some smart and  sensible journalism!
